Last year, fans of the ’90s Seattle scene were treated to a concert for the ages when surviving Mad Season members Mike McCready (also of Pearl Jam) and Barrett Martin (formerly of Screaming Trees) did an ad hoc reunion show. In the place of the their late bandmates John Baker Saunders and Layne Staley they recruited Chris Cornell of Soundgarden on vocals and former Guns N Roses bassist Duff McKagan.

It was a one-off show; Cornell is currently on an acoustic tour promoting his new solo album Higher Truth, and AM New York asked him if he’d consider playing with that collective again.

“I won’t be doing anything under that name because of the historical significance to it,” he said, likely referring to the fact that Staley and Saunders are no longer with us. “But I’d certainly be amenable to doing stuff with those three guys, Barrett [Martin], Duff [McKagan] and Mike [McCready]. The experience of being onstage with them and just playing a few songs was really amazing. I was really blown away. Having said that, I think of it as something far in the future as all of us are slammed busy. But someday, I would love nothing more than to play with those three guys.”

McCready, meanwhile, is preparing for a South American tour with Pearl Jam, but responded on his Facebook page, saying “Would love to collaborate more with Chris Cornell, Duff McKagan and Barrett Martin at some point down the road!”

Most of these guys have played together in different incarnations: McCready and Cornell, of course, have also played together in Temple of the Dog (that group also reunited at the aforementioned Mad Season reunion show) and McKagan and Martin play together in Walking Papers, who are expected to release their second album in the near future.

Meanwhile, you can hear the Mad Season and Temple of the Dog reunions on the recently released Sonic Evolution album, which is available now.
